What to wear for your nikkah: pearls, soft earrings, a light tikka and one statement piece, with looks for white, pastel and green outfits.

Polki Pearl Mala, 925 silver necklace with polki and pearl

The nikkah is usually calmer and more personal than the barat, and many brides want a lighter look for it. Here is how to keep it simple and still look like a bride.

Lighter than the barat

Save the biggest set for the barat. For the nikkah, choose fewer pieces and let one of them stand out.

Pearls always work

Pearls look soft and elegant with white, ivory and pastel outfits, and they photograph beautifully in daylight.

Earrings: tops or a small chandbali

Tops and small earrings keep the look clean, especially if you wear your dupatta over your head for the ceremony.

A light tikka

A small pearl tikka or a bindiya adds a bridal touch without feeling heavy.

Matching your outfit colour

  • White and ivory: pearls and a silver look.
  • Pastel pink and peach: rose gold.
  • Green: emerald stones.

One statement piece

Pick either a bigger necklace or bigger earrings, not both. A mala with pearls and polki, or a collar set, is enough on its own.
